The Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra was established as a professional organization by the Administration of Krasnoyarsk in May, 1993. But orchestra's artistic style, repertoire, ensemble concord were formed long time before in the Student Orchestra of Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts, which had been known as "Curanta-2001".

    The founder and artistic director of the Orchestra is Mikhail Benioumov, Honored Artist of Russia, BA, Professor, head of the string department of the Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Music and Theatre. Most of the violinists of the Orchestra are his former students. That is to explain the unity of school and performing style.

    The important contribution to the development of the orchestra made Larissa Markossian. Since first days of the orchestra's existing she had not only performed as a soloist, but also held a post of director. In 2003 the director's position accepted Irina Katz.

    The permanent performances of the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra are the essential part of the Krasnoyarsk cultural life. The Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra is also a permanent participant of many International Festivals in Russia as well as abroad (Milan, Ferrara, Arezzo, Valencia, Guadalajara, Siguenza). All the International projects were realized thanks to the support of the Krasnoyarsk City Administration.

    The Orchestra has performed with many outstanding musicians: Piero Bellugi, Andrea Pestalozza, Ivano Battiston, David Bellugi (Italy), Stefan Weiler, Tilman Vikk, Elsbeth Moser (Germany); People Artists of Russia Igor Frolov (violin), Olga Sinitsina (soprano), Vladimir Tonkha (cello); Honored Artists of Russia Natalia Sokolova, Zhanetta Tarayan, Mikhail Arkadyev, Liudmila Kamelina, Petr Gribanov, Marina Kouzina-Koifman, Anantolii Ivanov, Vera Baranova: conductors - Honored Artist of Russia Mikhail Turich, Lini Tao (China), Alexander Yudasin, vocalists Alexander Khvorostovski, Gerburg Lumpe, Elzbeth Bemer (Germany).

    The constant partners of the Krasnoyarsk Chamber Orchestra are: the Center of International Cultural Contacts of the Administration of the Krasnoyarsk Region (Director - Andrei Maslov); Internationale Bach Akademie Stuttgart; Goethe-Institut (Germany); International Music Academy (Valencia, Spain); International Cultural Center "Cennina" (president - Osvaldo Righi).

    Numerous common projects join the Chamber Orchestra with some Krasnoyarsk Choirs: The Krasnoyarsk Chamber Choir "Tebe Poem" by direction of Honored Artist of Russia Constantine Yakobson, the Student Choir of the Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Music and Theatre by direction of professor Liudmila Krayevaya, the Female chorus of school teachers directed by German Shakhramanyan.
